چکیده

Abstract Background Plant secondary metabolites or mixtures in extracts essential oils are well known to enhance the activity binary mixtures. The present study is first report that thymol synergistically additively enhances of P. ribesioides and isolated compounds against S. exigua larvae at sublethal doses. Results Thymol was synergistic when mixed with hexane extract; however, if extract level higher (LD 30 ) than 10 ), reaction antagonistic. CH 2 Cl were more toxic alone, EtOAc synergized by components combined similar levels (1:1 thymol:EtOAc LD ). MeOH individually had moderate insecticidal activity, but all combinations as Isolated compounds, piperine, phenethyl cinnamamide cinnamic acid represented synergistic, additive, antagonistic action after combining Detoxification enzymes exposure insects treatments showed + could inhibit CE, GST AChE exceptional being piperine thymol, which induced detoxification enzyme activity. Conclusion extract- dose-specific. impact on variable dependent composition doses used a mixture. In this metabolic model, major insect compound an may become detoxified, whereas minor will act unimpeded, showing lower 50 acting alone. This model suggests synergizes differently, depend specific dose applied. Such studies help design effective insecticides based natural plant compound. Graphical abstract

Antifeedant Activity of Plant Extracts Against Spodoptera litura (Fab.) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Botanicals act not only as insecticides but also function as antifeedants, oviposition deterrents and ovicides. The present investigation reports on the antifeedant property of leaf components of Curculigo orchioides, Evolvulus alsinoides, Phyllanthus deblis, Swertia corymbosa and Zanthoxylum limonella. Solvent residues of these leaf components obtained from different solvent extracts dissolved...

Toxicity of Some Commonly Used Synthetic Insecticides Against Spodoptera exigua (Fab) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Spodoptera exigua (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is one of the major pests of many crops in Pakistan. Effectiveness of different insecticides was evaluated against field populations of 2 instar larvae of S. exigua under laboratory conditions because in lepidopterous pests resistance is developed in 3 instars. Bioassays were performed through leaf dip method to evaluate the doseand time-mortality resp...

Effect of tinopal LPW on the insecticidal properties and genetic stability of the nucleopolyhedrovirus of Spodoptera exigua (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae).

The influence of an optical brightener, Tinopal LPW, on the activity of a purified genotype of the nucleopolyhedrovirus (SeMNPV) of the beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua (Hübner), was determined in second to fifth instar (L2-L5) S. exigua. When mixed with viral occlusion bodies (OB) 1% Tinopal LPW significantly reduced the median lethal dose (LD50) of the virus in all instars compared with insec...

High Bacterial Agglutination Activity in a Single-CRD C-Type Lectin from Spodoptera exigua (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Lectins are carbohydrate-interacting proteins that play a pivotal role in multiple physiological and developmental aspects of all organisms. They can specifically interact with different bacterial and viral pathogens through carbohydrate-recognition domains (CRD). In addition, lectins are also of biotechnological interest because of their potential use as biosensors for capturing and identifyin...

Bacillus thuringiensis Survey in Brazil: Geographical Distribution and Insecticidal Activity Against Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

A total of 3408 strains of Bacillus thuringiensis were collected from 1448 soil samples in 10 Brazilian states, four different geographical regions, covering 96 counties. These strains were evaluated against Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) larvae. Only 62% killed between 81% and 100% and 1758 caused no mortality. Highest proportion of efficient strains (larval mortality above 75%) was found ...
